Passengers are advised that Arriva making some changes to our fares and fare zones within the North East.

See the full announcement below.

‘We’re sorry that we are increasing fares with effect from Sunday 5 November 2023. We’ve had to make this tough decision due to a rise inflation and increasing running costs, which none of us will have failed to notice.

Though this is not the news our passengers would want to hear, we’re keen to point out that we are still part of the £2 national fare cap scheme, which still represents value for money for our customers.

Whilst our single and return fares will also regrettably increase by up to 12%, the vast majority of single fares will however continue to be capped at the £2 national fare cap, which means that you will still pay a maximum of £2 for any single journey going forwards, but some fares currently under the cap will increase.

Additionally, we’re making changes to simplify the zonal structure within the Northumberland, Tyne & Wear and Durham areas from the same date, reducing the complicated numbers of different zones and ticket types into a much smaller and straight forward product option.

What does this mean for me?

Depending on which ticket you currently buy, your ticket price may change, or you may be required to buy a different zonal ticket instead.
