FA makes decision on Alexis Mac Allister ban ahead of NUFC game

Newcastle United Transfer News 2023

Liverpool’s midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has been spared a suspension following his red card against Bournemouth, as confirmed by the FA. The Argentina international had received a direct red card for a foul on Ryan Christie during the match against the Cherries. Nevertheless, Liverpool took action by contesting the decision, and their efforts have proven successful. Consequently, they will have the services of Mac Allister at their disposal in the upcoming weeks.

The FA released a statement stating, “An Independent Regulatory Commission has overturned Alexis Mac Allister’s three-match suspension following a claim of unfair dismissal. The incident occurred when the Liverpool midfielder was sent off for a serious foul play in the Premier League clash against Bournemouth on Saturday, 19 August.”

Liverpool’s manager, Jurgen Klopp, shared his perspective on the matter after the match, saying, “I’ve reviewed the footage, and given the frequency with which I’ve been asked about it, I believe it’s worthwhile to revisit the topic, which we’re likely to do.” Klopp also conveyed Mac Allister’s explanation, noting, “Alexis informed me that he made contact, but not to a significant extent. If you evaluate the criteria for awarding a penalty based solely on contact and don’t consider other factors, then it’s incomplete. If the offense warranted a yellow card, the decision wouldn’t have been reversed. However, due to the red card and the presence of contact, VAR chose not to intervene, and so on.”

Klopp expressed his thoughts on the penalty and the subsequent dismissal, remarking, “Serving a 40-minute period with ten players already constitutes a form of punishment. It’s worth considering discussing this with the relevant authorities. We’ve witnessed more severe challenges that didn’t result in red cards.”

Watch Yankuba Minteh score first goal for Feyenoord in 5-1 win on Sunday

Published

Newcastle United loanee Yankuba Minteh has scored his first competitive goal for Feyenoord, scoring in Sunday’s 5-1 win over FC Utrecht.

After starting in their 6-1 win over Almere City last weekend, the Gambian teenager came off the bench and scored in stoppage time, rounding the goalkeeper and finishing calmly to seal another convincing victory for the Dutch champions.

This rounds off a positive few weeks for the 19-year-old winger, who was our first summer signing after sealing a £6m move from Danish side Odense.

Last month he helped spark a comeback draw away to local rivals Sparta Rotterdam, before starting his first Eredivisie game against Almere. Now, he’s come off the bench and bagged his first goal for the club.
