Honours even at the Amex as United remain in the relegation zone

Isaac Hayden’s second half equaliser helped Newcastle to another point away from home after Leoandro Trossard gave Brighton the lead from the penalty spot early in the first half.
Newcastle United remain winless and second bottom of the premier league. They were unable to take advantage of an improved second half performance which saw the Seagulls reduced to ten men in injury time.
In the first half Brighton dominated possession and they got their due reward when Leoandro Trossard converted from the spot after he was clipped in the box by defender Ciaran Clark – a decision given after a lengthy consultation with VAR. The Seagulls continued to control the game as all 11 Newcastle players sat behind the ball in a very deliberate low block – much to the frustration of the travelling fans.
The second half was a fiery affair at times, with the referee reaching for his pocked repeatably to give out five yellow cards and a red one.
The Mags gradually pushed further up the pitch as they gained a foothold in the game – their 66th minute equaliser came courtesy of a well worked cross finished sharply by ball-winning midfielder Hayden.
As United continued to press, VAR was consulted again in the 90th minute. Striker Callum Wilson collided with Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez having found himself one-on-one. After a lengthy delay the referee was asked to check the VAR monitor and subsequently changed his decision. The result, a straight red for Sanchez was surely not enough for the travelling Geordies who once again failed to see their side win. But there is one thing we can all agree on: there are few more entertaining sights in football than an outfield player having to go in goal. Unfortunately the fun stopped there as United failed to test stand-in ‘keeper Lewis Dunk.
Overall another welcome point which means Newcastle remain above bottom placed Norwich on goal difference, despite the Canaries’ impressive away victory over Brentford.
The international break now gives everyone time to pause, draw breath and reflect on the sometimes jumbled events of the last month. Four weeks after the news of the Saudi takeover broke, Newcastle’s manager-elect Eddie Howe appeared in the stands at the Amex on Saturday next to Amanda Stavely, giving all fans hope of a new beginning on and off the pitch. Is he the man to bring a change in fortunes? Only time will tell.

In the immediate future, it remains critical that performances improve and the Mags find a way to pick up some much needed points before a very difficult Christmas period.
If Howe’s appointment is announced within the next couple of days, he will have an extended period with the squad before the Toon host Premier League new boys Brentford at St. James’ Park.
Newcastle then face relegation rivals Norwich and Burnley at home – games that have already become must-wins before a Christmas fixture logjam that could prove tough for the Magpies. The next month could go a long way in deciding the fate of United who are still looking anxiously over their shoulders towards the Championship.

The Players Newcastle United could/should sign from Saudi

Newcastle United has received a green light to pursue players from the Saudi Pro League after a proposed Premier League vote to restrict loan moves between clubs with shared owners fell short of the required support. This decision opens up possibilities for Newcastle to strengthen their squad in January, targeting talents from clubs linked with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. Despite initial discussions to potentially bar such transfers, the recent vote outcome has cleared the way for Newcastle to explore signings.
See our video and reaction below and follow our YouTube for more local videos..
A recent meeting among the Premier League’s 20 clubs concluded without the necessary majority support to impose a ban on loan transfers between co-owned clubs. While 13 teams voted in favor of the prohibition, the requirement of 14 votes for approval was not met, granting Newcastle the liberty to pursue players from the Saudi Pro League.
This development particularly benefits Newcastle’s pursuit of Al Hilal midfielder Ruben Neves, whom they’ve eyed as a potential replacement for Sandro Tonali. Neves, despite significant interest from the Premier League, is expected to remain with Al Hilal during the upcoming January transfer window. The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports that despite ongoing speculation, Neves is content and settled at Al Hilal, playing a pivotal role within the team. His projected stay until the season’s end indicates his commitment to Al Hilal’s cause, especially crucial following Neymar’s injury.
Although ties between Newcastle and Al Hilal, sharing the same majority shareholder in Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), sparked concerns about potential rule changes, as of now, no alterations have been enforced. Speculation regarding a Premier League vote to block such moves in the winter market hasn’t materialized into action. Consequently, Neves looks set to continue his journey with Al Hilal, with no reported negotiations or approaches from interested parties.
Al Hilal’s impressive position atop the Saudi Pro League standings, coupled with their progress in tournaments like the AFC Champions League and the King’s Cup, further solidifies Neves’ integral role within the team. Their dominance, evident in their substantial lead over second-place Al Nassr, underscores their strength even with the latter boasting talents like Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ultimately, Newcastle’s access to the Saudi Pro League remains unimpeded, potentially paving the way for significant acquisitions in the upcoming transfer window.

Everton Get Record 10 Point Deduction!

Everton faced a significant setback as they incurred a 10-point deduction due to a breach of profit and sustainability regulations, marking the most substantial penalty in Premier League history. This plunge pushed Sean Dyche’s squad into the relegation zone, casting a shadow over their prior 14th position in the league, where they were holding an eight-point buffer from the bottom three.
This unprecedented deduction echoes only two prior instances in Premier League history. Middlesbrough faced a three-point penalty for failing to fulfill a fixture against Blackburn in 1996/97, while Portsmouth was stripped of nine points after entering administration in March 2010. Everton’s situation was referred to an Independent Commission by the Premier League in March over potential violations of profit and sustainability rules.
Amidst this, Everton voiced their intention to vigorously defend and strongly contest the charges before a hearing held last month. The specifics of the alleged breach have not been officially disclosed. However, insights from Sky Sports News suggest that the charges are linked to interest payments concerning the construction expenses for the club’s new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock.
