Newcastle still interested in Monaco centre-back

Newcastle United are keen two bring two new centre-backs to the club in January to help bolster their chances of Premier League survival and have been linked with Monaco star Benoit Badiashile.
Newcastle are attempting to add in defence following the arrival of Kieran Trippier.
The Magpies named Lille defender Sven Botman their ‘top-priority’ at the start of the window and launched a second bid for the Dutch U21 international on Friday in the region of £29.3million, plus add-ons.
However, Newcastle are expected to have to pay up to £45m to capture the sought after centre-back – but the deal seems to have fallen through.
Sky Sports have today reported that Newcastle are still interested in signing 20-year-old Monaco academy graduate Benoit Badiashile, who has become a key part of the French sides defence this campaign.
France U21 international Badiashile is valued around £35m and negotiations are ongoing as Newcastle run a number of parallel negotiations as discussions are reportedly continuing with Sevilla for 28-year-old Brazilian Diego Carlos.
Badiashile has attracted interest from West Ham, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester United, but it seems that Eddie Howe and PIF are now chasing his signature.
But there is no guarantee the Magpies will launch a bid for the defender as the club are said to be negotiating with a number of defenders. Howe is after at least two centre-backs with Jamaal Lascelles and Ciaran Clark his current first two.
At the age of 20, Badiashile has already amassed over 100 appearances for Monaco who at the time of writing this article sit seventh in Ligue 1.
There is no denying Badiashile’s ability as a centre-back and he seems to be destined to secure a big-money move in the future.
However, signing a 20-year-old who hasn’t played in the Premier League before and doesn’t have that world class mentor next to him, could be a huge risk – especially as Newcastle battle for survival in the English top flight.
The Monaco centre-back picked up an injury at Nantes on Sunday and early signs indicate he will be out for 2-3 weeks, which means the move could be in doubt given the time scale.
Howe’s side have been extremely poor at the back this term and have the second worst defensive record so far, shipping 42 goals in the first half of the season. A couple of centre backs are needed but perhaps names like Tarkowski may be a better short-term option to help bolster the clubs chances of remaining a Premier League side next season.
As Newcastle continue their quest to sign Dutch U21 international Sven Botman, Howe is expected to want to bring in more major reinforcements following the signing of Kieran Trippier last week.
Thoughts? Which two centre-backs would you like to see wearing the black and white?

Watch Yankuba Minteh score first goal for Feyenoord in 5-1 win on Sunday

Newcastle United loanee Yankuba Minteh has scored his first competitive goal for Feyenoord, scoring in Sunday’s 5-1 win over FC Utrecht.
After starting in their 6-1 win over Almere City last weekend, the Gambian teenager came off the bench and scored in stoppage time, rounding the goalkeeper and finishing calmly to seal another convincing victory for the Dutch champions.
This rounds off a positive few weeks for the 19-year-old winger, who was our first summer signing after sealing a £6m move from Danish side Odense.
Last month he helped spark a comeback draw away to local rivals Sparta Rotterdam, before starting his first Eredivisie game against Almere. Now, he’s come off the bench and bagged his first goal for the club.
