Officers are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted in Newcastle outside a city centre bar.

It was reported that at around midnight on February 12, a man had been queuing for Flares on Mosely Street, Newcastle when another male, who was standing behind him, has accused him of pushing in front of him.

The man has then reportedly pushed the 20-year-old victim and punched numerous times to the head causing him to fall over, before kicking him while he was on the ground.

The offender has then left the area, but returned to the scene several minutes later, where he was stopped by a man believed to be wearing a red jacket.

The victim was taken to hospital having sustained injuries to his face and ankle.

A number of enquiries have been carried out and police are now appealing for any witnesses who are yet to come forward.

They are especially keen to hear from the male in the red jacket and have also issued the image of a male who was in the area at the time of the incident, and could have information which can assist.
