PSG Quartet Given Suspended Bans for Offensive Chants

PSG FANS IN NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE - VIDEO FOOTAGE

Paris St-Germain’s Ousmane Dembele, Randal Kolo Muani, Layvin Kurzawa, and Achraf Hakimi have been handed one-match suspended bans for their involvement in offensive chanting.

The disciplinary committee of the French league (LFP) took action following a video showing these players singing an insulting song directed at Marseille fans after PSG’s 4-0 victory over their rivals on September 24.

In addition to these bans, PSG will temporarily close the Auteuil stand at Parc des Princes for one game due to some of their fans directing homophobic chants towards Marseille players.

The quartet, comprising France internationals Dembele, Muani, and Kurzawa, as well as Morocco defender Hakimi, publicly apologized for their behavior on Sunday. They acknowledged that they got carried away with the euphoria of the win and were aware of the impact of their actions on the public, particularly young fans who look up to footballers.

They pledged to take their responsibilities more seriously in the future, aiming to set a better example. The stand closure sanction originally entailed a two-game punishment, with one game suspended.

While PSG considered the penalty to be excessive, they have decided not to appeal the decision. The club affirmed its commitment to working with organizations dedicated to combating discrimination in order to foster a change in attitudes and mentalities.
