Sage revealed as Gateshead Quayside’s new venue’s naming partner

Published

on

A £10m investment will see that the conference centre and arena will be named The Sage.

Set to open in 2024, the venue has secured a multimillion-pound naming rights deal with North East technology company Sage.

The over £300m development will be located on the banks of the River Tyne between Sage Gateshead and the Baltic.

The music centre, which has been sponsored by Sage since it’s opening in 2004, is expected to change names once The Sage opens to ensure the two are easy to differentiate between.

The venue will hopefully add £70m to the local economy yearly and create 2,000 jobs.

Sage Group’s SEO Steve Hare said: “Sage’s heart has always been in the North East, and today’s announcement embodies our purpose – to knock down barriers so everyone can thrive. The Sage brings the world to the North East’s front door, providing a platform to celebrate the region’s brilliance.

“We are committed to making sure that The Sage is an inclusive venue by giving access to all, no matter their background. We believe it will unlock the huge potential the North East has, attracting greater investment and innovation.”

Both local small and medium businesses as well as Sage customers are contributing to the venue’s development and operation of the site, and in turn will benefit from work spaces, priority access and promotional opportunities.

Predicted to bring 1 million additional visitors, The Sage will include an arena, purpose-built conference and exhibition centre, restaurants, two hotels and outdoor performance spaces.

It is hoped The Sage will bring the world to the North East.

Leader of Gateshead Council, Councillor Martin Gannon, said: “We are delighted to see work beginning on what is a vital site for Gateshead and the wider region.

“We will work closely with our partners and local stakeholders to ensure the development progresses smoothly, and we deliver a project that creates good quality jobs and provides a huge boost to our economy.”

Full construction is expected to begin next year under a different contract.
