Six potential strikers that would improve Newcastle’s attack

With today marking the opening of the 2022 Summer transfer window, rumours will start to circulate and deals will get over the line for clubs across the Premier League over the next few weeks.
When it comes to Newcastle, their attacking options must be bolstered if they wish to be pushing for European spots in the near future.
With the recent signing of Chris Wood not looking to be enough for the Toon and the constant worries over an injury-prone Callum Wilson, Eddie Howe will be looking to add attacking depth to his Newcastle side to support the likes of Allan Saint-Maximin and Ryan Fraser.
But the question of who these attacking signings might be is still a very open one …
- Hugo Ekitike
Starting with the obvious, the reported signing of Reims forward Hugo Ekitike has only been getting stronger and stronger.
It was only a matter of days ago that Newcastle had a full agreement with Reims on a transfer fee of €30 million with €5 million add-ons.
However, it was revealed that in a game yesterday for France Under 20s, the 19-year-old came off injured after eight minutes of play. Fabrizio Romano reported that the striker’s agent was due to be in Newcastle on Monday, however, has now confirmed that the deal could be delayed after the hamstring injury with Newcastle continuing to monitor other options.
The French man scored 10 goals in 15 starts in Ligue 1 last season.
Can you see this deal getting over the line?
A transfer that could still very much go through, but let’s have a look at other options that Eddie Howe could consider to improve his attacking threat …

Watch Yankuba Minteh score first goal for Feyenoord in 5-1 win on Sunday

Newcastle United loanee Yankuba Minteh has scored his first competitive goal for Feyenoord, scoring in Sunday’s 5-1 win over FC Utrecht.
After starting in their 6-1 win over Almere City last weekend, the Gambian teenager came off the bench and scored in stoppage time, rounding the goalkeeper and finishing calmly to seal another convincing victory for the Dutch champions.
This rounds off a positive few weeks for the 19-year-old winger, who was our first summer signing after sealing a £6m move from Danish side Odense.
Last month he helped spark a comeback draw away to local rivals Sparta Rotterdam, before starting his first Eredivisie game against Almere. Now, he’s come off the bench and bagged his first goal for the club.
