Sunderland eyeing up play-off spot alongside Middlesbrough

A big win for Sunderland on the weekend sees them move into the play-off positions.
The Hawthorns was the venue for a match which could end up being a decider in the run in for the play-offs. West Brom welcomed Sunderland on Sunday in which Tony Mowbray’s Black Cats left victorious.
John Swift’s first-half penalty on the stroke of half-time gave Albion a just about deserved interval lead.
Five minutes into the second half though, Dennis Cirkin got on to the end of a Lynden Gooch cross to head in the equaliser.
It was Cirkin again with just 6 minutes to go who scored the winner after a well worked team move.
It ended a six-month unbeaten home run for Albion, who had not lost in 13 games at The Hawthorns since Coberan’s first home game in charge in late October.
That result saw Sunderland get into 6th in the league, which if they finish there by the end of the season, will see them play 3rd in the first 2 legs of the play-offs.
Middlesbrough’s win over Hull City last week saw them mathematically secure a play-off position.
This means that, depending on final table positions, we could see Middlesbrough vs Sunderland in the play-offs, whether that be across 2 legs or at Wembley.

VAR official PUNISHED after Champions League PSG vs Newcastle howler

Following a contentious late penalty awarded to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) during their 1-1 draw against Newcastle, the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) official involved in the decision has been replaced for an upcoming Champions League fixture. Tomasz Kwiatkowski, the Polish VAR official on duty at Parc des Princes, deemed a handball by Newcastle’s Tino Livramento, leading to Kylian Mbappe converting a 98th-minute penalty, salvaging a point for PSG managed by Luis Enrique.
See our reaction here:
This outcome potentially affects the Champions League group standings significantly, as PSG retains their second position, edging two points ahead of Newcastle, with one group game remaining. The penalty call didn’t originate from referee Szymon Marciniak but was reversed after Kwiatkowski prompted him to review the incident on the VAR screen.
Originally slated for VAR duty in the upcoming Real Sociedad versus RB Salzburg clash, Kwiatkowski has been replaced, according to reports. The replacement for the Polish official hasn’t been disclosed yet. Kwiatkowski, 45, frequently officiates in Poland’s top football league and possesses experience in European competitions.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe expressed dissatisfaction with the VAR decision, emphasizing its timing and impact, stating, “I feel it is a poor decision and it’s hugely frustrating for us, as you know how little time there is left in the game. There is nothing we can do about it now.”
For Newcastle to secure a spot in the last 16 of the Champions League, they must defeat AC Milan at St James’ Park on the final matchweek while hoping PSG doesn’t secure a victory against Borussia Dortmund.

Police issue urgently warning following the brand new iOS update!

While many are familiar with the swift file-sharing capability of Airdrop, Apple has introduced a new addition called ‘NameDrop’ in its latest iteration. Functioning similarly to Airdrop, this feature facilitates the rapid exchange of contact information among users, aiming to streamline the process of sharing phone numbers without manual input.
However, authorities have flagged serious safety risks associated with this new addition. They caution that this feature might make personal information incredibly accessible, raising potential security vulnerabilities.
Sharing your contact details does involve a confirmation step. Yet, there’s a risk of inadvertently sharing your information with strangers if you’re uncertain about the pop-up or its purpose. Moreover, providing a guaranteed and accurate contact could pose risks down the line.
For instance, a scenario could unfold where someone, wishing to avoid unwanted attention, offers a fake number. Unfortunately, if that falsified contact information is scanned, it wouldn’t serve its intended purpose.
Police have issued a warning regarding the default activation of ‘NameDrop’ in the new Apple update. They emphasized that with this feature enabled, anyone can swiftly acquire contact information including pictures, phone numbers, email addresses, and more by simply placing their phone near yours or your child’s unlocked screen.
The police provided instructions on how to deactivate this feature, advising users to navigate to General – AirDrop – and disable ‘Bringing Devices Together.’ Additionally, they recommended setting ‘contacts only’ in the Airdrop settings to avoid receiving unsolicited images from strangers.
However, some individuals countered the police advisory, suggesting it might be overly alarmist. One individual stated that it wasn’t a safety issue as both parties needed to acknowledge the exchange. Another pointed out the need for awareness about disabling the feature, even with consent to the exchange.
They highlighted the importance of being informed about managing these settings: “Done. Thank you for this PSA! Approval or NOT, thank you for sharing this information. Always helpful to know more than less!”
