Whether you prefer a full English breakfast or a stack of sweet American pancakes, breakfast is arguably the most important meal of the day. There are lots of cafes and restaurants across Newcastle which offer delicious breakfast options no matter your preference and we’ve picked out our best 6.
Cafe 1901

Based in an old church in Jesmond, this walk-in only café has an extensive breakfast and lunch menu and a cabinet filled with freshly baked cakes and other treats. Their full English is delicious, and the portion size is generous. They also offer a range of classic breakfasts such as eggs benedict and mushrooms on sourdough toast as well as some slightly different options like corn fritters and shakshouka. It’s typically quite busy so it isn’t unusual to queue at peak times, however the wait times are never too long. The café itself is decorated with eclectic bits of mismatched furniture which creates a lovely environment. If you’re there later in the day they also have lots of delicious lunch options ranging from sandwiches, soups, salads, jacket potatoes and burgers.
Horticulture

As well as being one of Newcastle’s nicest bars renowned for its large espresso martini menu, Horticulture also offers great brunch options served every day 10am-3pm. Their menu offers something slightly different with dishes like Persian eggs, shloumi, sweet potato hash and steak and eggs. They also offer French toast for something a little sweeter or their version of the full English: Muckle breakfast. You can book a table, or they do also accept walk ins.
