Newcastle host Cambridge in the FA Cup Third Round

The Magpies welcome Cambridge United to St James’ Park in the third round of the FA Cup. The fixture will take place over the weekend of Friday 7 until Monday 10 January 2022.
With Premier League and EFL Championship clubs entering the competition at this stage, the Cup really starts to heat up.
Newcastle have a very poor recent record in the prestigious FA Cup and will be hoping the competition doesn’t distract them from their hunt for Premier League survival.
Eddie Howe may have a selection headache when it comes to the tie and will have to make a decision on the importance of progressing.
The Magpies crashed out at this stage last year after a difficult trip to the Emirates to face Arsenal, who ran out 2-0 winner AET.
Newcastle have progressed just once in the last 15 seasons beyond the fourth round.
That was 2 years ago when the side were eventually knocked-out in the Quarter-finals by a strong Manchester City side.
Therefore expectation is very low again this season but with additions in January, the Magpies might see an opportunity to bring some success and excitement to Tyneside.
Maybe not this year, but in the short-term future of the club, the FA Cup could be a competition that Howe’s side can put up a significant challenge for.

Watch Yankuba Minteh score first goal for Feyenoord in 5-1 win on Sunday

Newcastle United loanee Yankuba Minteh has scored his first competitive goal for Feyenoord, scoring in Sunday’s 5-1 win over FC Utrecht.
After starting in their 6-1 win over Almere City last weekend, the Gambian teenager came off the bench and scored in stoppage time, rounding the goalkeeper and finishing calmly to seal another convincing victory for the Dutch champions.
This rounds off a positive few weeks for the 19-year-old winger, who was our first summer signing after sealing a £6m move from Danish side Odense.
Last month he helped spark a comeback draw away to local rivals Sparta Rotterdam, before starting his first Eredivisie game against Almere. Now, he’s come off the bench and bagged his first goal for the club.
