Newcastle United Season Prediction

Newcastle United are reportedly set to complete the deadline-day signing of Shrewsbury Town starlet before the window closes!

According to the Shropshire Star, Newcastle United are closing in on a deal for highly-rated Shrewsbury midfielder Travis Hernes, who is on Tyneside today to put pen to paper on a deal with the north-east giants.

Travis Hernes is widely known as being one of the best young prospects in League 1! The Magpies have made five signings ahead of deadline day, with Yankuba Minteh joining before going out on loan to Feyenoord and Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes, Tino Livramento, and Lewis Hall adding to Howe’s first-team squad.

In total, just over£130 million has been splashed by the club plus the approximately £30 million they will be obligated to pay Chelsea for Hall following the end of his loan next summer.

Travis Hernes is a 17-year-old Norway youth international first broke onto the scene last season when he scored in Town’s EFL Trophy campaign against Wolverhampton Wanderers Under-21s.

He has been brought off the bench in two of the club’s League One outings this term, and he also featured against Leeds United in the Carabao Cup last month. The youngster was rewarded with his first professional deal with the third-tier outfit at the start of August.

That contract does not expire until the summer of 2026. But the Shropshire Star now reports the young midfielder is set to join Newcastle after travelling to the North East on Thursday to finalise a deadline-day move. Shrewsbury have reportedly received a 20 percent sell-on clause as part of the deal, with the Shropshire outfit also receiving an undisclosed fee from NUFC.

A Journey Through Time: The History of the Victoria Tunnel

The Industrial Age

Constructed between 1839 and 1842, the Victoria Tunnel was originally built to transport coal from the Spital Tongues colliery to the River Tyne. This engineering marvel was named in honor of Queen Victoria and was an essential component of Newcastle’s thriving coal industry. Stretching over 2.4 miles, the tunnel allowed for the efficient and secure movement of coal, significantly boosting the city’s economy during the Industrial Revolution.

World War II: A Sanctuary Below Ground

As World War II raged, the Victoria Tunnel found a new purpose, transforming into an air raid shelter to protect Newcastle’s citizens during enemy bombings. With capacity for over 9,000 people, the tunnel was equipped with bunk beds, seating, and basic amenities, offering a safe haven amidst the chaos above ground. Today, visitors can still see remnants of this era, including wartime graffiti, which serves as a poignant reminder of the past.

Rediscovery and Restoration

After the war, the Victoria Tunnel was largely forgotten until its rediscovery in the early 2000s. Efforts were then undertaken to restore and preserve this historical site. Tony Mowbray stepping away from Birmingham job due to serious illness

Published

on

Sunderland AFC has this evening parted company with Head Coach Tony Mowbray.

Tony Mowbray is taking a temporary leave from his position as manager of Birmingham City due to a significant health concern, as announced by the club. The unexpected development has shocked the Championship team, with Mowbray opting to step aside for a period of six to eight weeks.

In a move that has left the team and staff taken aback, Mowbray addressed the group at a confidential gathering at the Henley-in-Arden training facility to share the news personally before the day’s training session. Amidst what has been a tumultuous season for the club, the severity of Mowbray’s illness remains undisclosed, with the club only revealing that the 60-year-old will be unavailable for six to eight weeks. Despite this, it’s anticipated that Mowbray might not return before the season concludes on May 4.

Mowbray’s decision to step down takes immediate effect as he is set to begin his treatment this week. This announcement comes as a significant blow to the club, which had seen a notable improvement under his leadership following a challenging period under Wayne Rooney’s management.

Since taking over the managerial role six weeks ago, Mowbray has been instrumental in reversing the club’s fortunes, securing ten points from six games, including vital wins against Blackburn Rovers and Sunderland that moved the team away from relegation threats.

With Mowbray’s absence, assistant manager Mark Venus is expected to take on the managerial responsibilities. Nonetheless, the importance of the managerial position at the club leaves open the possibility of appointing an interim manager. Potential candidates for the role include former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper and ex-Birmingham City midfielder Lee Carsley, who recently led England’s Under-21s to a European Championship victory. Carsley might be considered for a dual role, combining his current responsibilities with the managerial duties at Birmingham City in the coming months.
